Dear Sensational Families,

First and foremost, we hope that you and your loved ones are safe during this tumultuous time.  Covid 19 has affected us all in so many ways.
It is with a heavy heart that we must deliver the unfortunate news that summer camp 2020 will be cancelled.  Many factors were considered in making this decision.
The safety of our campers and staff has always been our highest priority and was the top consideration.  On June 2nd, New York State announced that summer day camps would be allowed to operate with restrictions and guidelines.  This surprised us because less than two weeks earlier, our Governor  said that he would not send his own child to day camp this year at one of his press briefings.  We reviewed the newly, New York State guidelines and the CDC guidelines to help us understand what this summer would look like and to help us decide if we should open this summer.  The guidelines for both agencies have campers placed in very small groups that do not mix or play with other groups.  Activities including toys, sports equipment, and craft supplies could not be shared.  Employees would have to wear masks all day and campers would have to wear a mask anytime they are closer than six feet from each other or staff.  Children would have to sit 6 ft. apart at lunch and everyone that entered the building would have to have their temperature taken and hand sanitizer and hand washing would have to be done all day.   Parents would have very limited access into the building.
With all of the guidelines and restrictions in place, we don’t feel 100% comfortable that we can guarantee the safety of our campers and staff.   Sensational Kids is a camp based around hugs, high fives, and social interactions in a close family atmosphere.  Having a summer how the guidelines describe just doesn’t feel right.
Another factor that went into our decision is our location.  As you know, our camp is run out of a school.   As of now, all schools are closed.   Our Lady of Hope does not know if or when that closer will be lifted.   The school is left as it was when it closed in March.  There is a lot of preparation and set-up that would have to happen in a very short time following the New York State and CDC guidelines.  So many parts of this are completely out of our control and still up in the air.
For the past 20 years we have been a part of this community creating fun and memorable summers for our campers.  We have always stressed that safety was our number one priority.  We have made this our priority because we consider our campers and counselors to be part of our family.  We hope that you will understand and support our decision and know that it was not made lightly or without a lot of thought.  We look forward to having the most amazing camp season in 2021 when our campers can enjoy the full camp experience in a safe way. We hope that you and your loved ones stay safe, healthy, and happy.  We will miss you this summer.
